Facet cyst excision without laminectomy

A patient with a facet cyst at L5-S1 with resultant stenosis and left lower extremity radiculopathy presented for excision of the facet cyst with decompression at L5-S1. A midline incision was made and a hemilaminotomy was performed at L5 with removal of ligamentum flavum. The degenerated cyst was encountered and removed in multiple pieces.
