July 2022 pages 1-7 New Codes for Ophthalmological Procedures In the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) 2022 code set, important changes were made in the Eye and Ocular Adnexa subsection of the Surgery section. Two new codes (66989, 66991) were established to report cataract removal and intraocular lens (IOL) placement procedures during which insertion and placement of an anterior segment aqueous drainage device without an external reservoir into the trabecular meshwork, is performed. Prior to 2022, these services were reported with Category III codes that have since been deleted. In addition, a new Category III code (0671T) was established...
