Is code 28291 appropriate to report for the insertion of a synthetic cartilage implant device? The patient has degenerative joint disease (DJD) of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ) and to correct this condition the physician performs a chielectomy and then drills a hole in the metatarsal head and inserts a synthetic cartilage implant device. Would this procedure be reported with CPT code 28291?
