PHYSICIAN NOTES: RACs May Accept Payment Plans If They Find Medicare Has Overpaid You
Plus: Medicare will no longer accept paper claims or adjustments for Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) transactions. If your MAC overpays you and a recovery audit contractor (RAC) asks for the money back, you could have 12 months to repay the overpayment via an extended repayment plan (ERP), according to CMS Transmittal 162, effective Dec. 15. If you request an ERP for a time period longer than 12 months, the RAC will request permission from its regional office, the transmittal says.
